This website has links to CALL activities that I have written using JavaScript. I make a lot of use of JavaScript in designing on-line learning activities as has the advantages of combining simplicity and versatility. The scripts are relatively small when compared to writing the same activity with Java or Flash – this means they download quickly (usually instantaneously). They also do not need any additional software to run – if the user is required to install the latest version of Flash before they begin they may well choose to do something else instead. Finally, JavaScript is pretty versatile – I have yet to find it incapable of doing what I want – but that may just be a reflection of my limited imagination.
